McKean County Community Foundation awards $26,500 from Covid-19 Assistance Fund

The McKean County Community Foundation (MCCF) is pleased to announce the awarding of Covid-19 grants to eleven area non-profit organizations. The MCCF Covid-19 Grants Committee, appointed by the Foundation’s Board of Directors, reviewed multiple applications and voted to distribute $26,500 from the MCCF COVID-19 Assistance Fund for various projects and programs to benefit local agencies.

The grant funding will support a variety of needs that agencies have experienced as a result of Covid-19 related issues. Many have experienced loss of funding that directly affects their operations and programs due to the inability to hold fundraising events. Through their grants, organizations are addressing safety issues, the need for additional staff and volunteers, and new outreach programs to ensure services are available to those in need.

Organizations receiving grants were Alcohol & Drug Abuse Services, Inc.; Bradford Ecumenical Home, Inc.; Bradford Learning Center; CARE for Children; CASA of McKean County; CTC Seneca Highlands; The Guidance Center; McKean County Historical Society; No Feline Left Behind in McKean County; YMCA; and YWCA.

The McKean County Community Foundation (MCCF) established the COVID-19 Assistance Fund in the spring of 2020 to help ease the impact of the pandemic that has affected the community in so many ways. Several rounds of grants have been awarded, now totaling $73,530 that has been distributed to agencies in McKean County.

Martha A Eddy Memorial Scholarship established at MCCF

A new scholarship has been established at the McKean County Community Foundation (MCCF) by the family of Martha Eddy to honor her memory. The Martha A. Eddy Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from Bradford Area High School, beginning in 2022.

Martha was a life-long resident of Bradford, graduating from Bradford Central Christian and Villa Maria College.

She was deeply committed to education for children. While teaching in her short career, Martha touched many lives. She passed away in 1990 after a long battle with health challenges and brain cancer. Donations are being accepted by the foundation to increase the value and permanency of this scholarship award.

MCCF will award this annual scholarship to an individual who will be attending an accredited two or four-year post-secondary school, pursuing a degree in education or a health related field. The candidate should show involvement in school and community activities, show a minimum GPA of 3.0, and submit an essay about their passion to be successful and their educational goals and aspirations.

Additional funding may also be available to the recipient of this scholarship. The Community Foundation is involved with the Partnership for Access to Higher Education (PATH) and will nominate all students who receive a scholarship from them to the PATH program. This essentially doubles the dollars a scholarship recipient can receive. This program is administered through PHEAA which provides matching dollars to qualified candidates. 

MCCF administers many scholarships to students in McKean County. In 2021, 48 scholarships totaling $33,200 were awarded to area students. The Foundation makes it easy for donors to establish funds that accomplish their charitable wishes with their tax deductible donations while improving the quality of life in our communities.

McKean County Community Foundation Annual Report is available online

The MCCF Annual Report, “Counting Our Blessings”, features photos of churches throughout McKean County.

The 2020 McKean County Community Foundation (MCCF) Annual Report celebrates the growth and accomplishments of the non-profit foundation over the past year. With the theme of “Counting Our Blessings”, the cover of the publication features a window pane collage with photos of area churches.

From its beginning in 2017, MCCF has been blessed with the support of charitable-minded individuals, organizations, and businesses that have invested in the future of our communities. The 49 funds established by these generous donors have given over $147,000 dollars back to our communities through grants and scholarships. Bob Esch, Board President, stated, “Our goal for the Foundation’s future years is to continue to grow our philanthropic resources to ensure our ability to support our communities for generations to come”.

The publication tells the story of donors, different types of funds, and the ways in which these funds have benefited our community through grants to non-profit organizations, schools, and municipalities, as well as through scholarships awarded to students throughout McKean County.

Grants available to non-profits from MCCF Covid-19 Fund

The McKean County Community Foundation (MCCF) is pleased to announce that grants are now available from their COVID-19 Assistance Fund for this granting period. Grant applications are due by July 30. The COVID-19 public health crisis and resulting economic crisis have created a variety of challenges for organizations in communities across the country. McKean County nonprofits invited to apply for COVID-19 grants

Among the various organizations that have benefited from a Covid Fund grant is The Lutheran Home at Kane, which was awarded $2,500 for four computers to assist residents and employees, especially with telemedicine visits with physicians.

In response to the ongoing pandemic, the McKean County Community Foundation established the COVID-19 Assistance Fund in the spring of 2020. The Foundation is pleased to announce that grants are now available during our current granting cycle for nonprofit organizations serving McKean County. The deadline for grant applications is January 29, 2021. The grant application is available on the Foundation’s website, www.mckeancountyfoundation.org, on the Open Grants page.

The Community Foundation will administer grants from the COVID-19 Assistance Fund to nonprofit organizations in McKean County that are serving vulnerable populations.  Support may be given to nonprofits who have seen detrimental impacts to their fiscal and administrative operation as a result of a loss of revenue, fundraising, or staffing, with focus on education and health care services throughout McKean County.

This outbreak has been impacting our community in many ways. By establishing the COVID-19 Assistance Fund in McKean County, our purpose is to bolster and coordinate philanthropic response to the disruptive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our neighbors, our community and the nonprofit agencies that serve them

The COVID-19 Assistance Fund is made up of public donations. We invite donors to join in this effort. By pooling our funds, we can collectively support our community nonprofits and make a bigger impact on their needs. The McKean County Community Foundation will waive administrative fees on all donations and will distribute 100% of all donations to those agencies in need by an open grant process.

Donations to this fund can be mailed to the McKean County Community Foundation at P.O. Box 708, Bradford, PA, 16701, with check made payable to the MCCF – COVID-19 Assistance Fund. Online donations will also be accepted through our website at www.mckeancountyfoundation.org, using the link on our home page. When making your donation, please indicate the COVID-19 Assistance Fund as the fund name.
