Mission & History
The Women’s Giving Circle of McKean County (WGC) is a society of philanthropists who work collectively to address and support issues that are important to women.
Our organization is made up of women just like you who care about improving the quality of life in McKean County for our families and friends. Membership is affordable and allows each of us to become a philanthropist by combining our donations and making an impact in our communities.
We periodically gather our members together to network, learn about community needs, and award grants to local nonprofits who offer programming that serves women and children living in McKean County. We invite area nonprofits to apply for funding through an annual competitive grants process.
Nonprofit (501 c 3) organizations, municipalities, and religious groups will qualify for WGC awards.
Who can be a member of WGC?
A member of WGC can be any philanthropic woman seeking to support community needs in McKean County. Membership is on a yearly basis. When you commit to donating a minimum of $100 you will be deemed a member with voting privileges to determine which organizations receive a grant from the Women’s Giving Circle Fund that year. Here’s how to join!
As a member, how am I involved in WGC?
WGC members are invited and encouraged to attend events. Details will be coming soon. Going forward, our tentative plans are to hold two each year, a spring social event, and our annual meeting held in October where you have a voice in choosing which organizations receive a grant. Both events are a wonderful gathering of area women who have an interest in supporting worthy projects in their communities. The events are fun-filled and accomplish a great purpose at the same time!
How does an organization apply for a grant?
The WGC awards will grant to eligible 501c3 organizations that enhance the quality of life for families in McKean County. Grant application are available here on our website or by contacting the Foundation.
Who decides which charitable organizations receive grants?
The grants will be awarded by a competitive grant-making process, and all members can provide input. Grant recipients are voted on by our membership at our annual meeting.
